In the morning of April 17, 2023, Ukraine’s energy system was operating with a surplus capacity. Starting today, Ukraine is exporting electricity to Slovakia in addition to Poland and Moldova. The relevant statement was made by Ukrenergo National Power Company on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

“As of April 17, 2023, electricity production volumes are enough to meet the consumer needs. Spring floods continue. The water level is much higher than in previous years. Ukrhydroenergo’s hydro power plants operate around the clock and, to minimize the consequences of floods, carry out controlled discharges of water, which allows for reducing the water level in the Kyiv and Kaniv reservoirs. The energy system is maintaining a sufficient surplus capacity,” the report states.

Today, Ukraine has started to export electricity to Slovakia (200 megawatts per hour). Electricity exports to Poland (75 megawatts per hour) and Moldova (99-134 megawatts at different hours) are also underway. Ukraine continues to receive some electricity imports from Slovakia (2-4 megawatts at different hours).

Along the frontline, the situation with power supply services is remaining challenging. On April 16, 2023, Kherson and certain areas in the Kherson region were left without electricity due to Russian attacks. Power engineers promptly restored electricity supply services.

Ukraine’s energy system continues to recover after Russian widespread attacks. Repair crews are working across all high-voltage power grid objects, which were affected by enemy shelling.
