UNWTO and Madrid celebrated World Tourism Day

The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, accompanied by the deputy mayor, Begoña Villacís, the delegates of Culture, Tourism, and Sports, Andrea Levy, and of Economy, Innovation, and Employment, Miguel Ángel Redondo, and the delegate councilor for Tourism, Almudena Maíllo, have participated in the act of recognition to the Madrid tourism sector organized on the occasion of World Tourism Day, which is commemorated September 27. World Tourism Day is an annual observance day very 27th of September.

This year, the city of Madrid held a ceremony awarding the tourism sector. UNWTO was commended as an institution supporting tourism, Madrid through its tourism - the office is a member of UNWTO, and the mayor of Madrid is extremely close to them. Zurab Pololikashvili, the Secretary-General of UNWTO received recognition representing the World Tourism Organization. Madrid is always presented as the capital of world tourism because it hosts the World Tourism Organization. The mayor commended Mr. Pololikashvili for bringing the UNWTO and Madrid closer than ever. He reiterated his commitment to support the organization and to go out of its way to keep it in.

UNWTO is the only fully-fledged UN agency headquartered in Spain and Madrid. This underscores the importance of tourism in the political agenda of Madrid. The Mayor said that it is part of the recovery that will come after COVID, that this is one of the economic pillars and employment vehicles of the capital of Spain, and that they are truly committed to advancing tourism as a real vehicle not only for employment but also for innovation for sustainability and the international image of both Madrid and Spain.
