US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev on Sunday and emphasized the importance of reopening the Lachin corridor, the only land link between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.

A US State Department statement said that Blinken asserted to Aliyev US's concern that "Azerbaijan's establishment of a checkpoint on the Lachin corridor undermines efforts to establish confidence in the peace process," stressing the importance of reopening the corridor to "commercial and private vehicles as soon as possible."

Antony Blinken also promised US support for the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

From December 12, 2022 to April 28, 2023, so-called Azerbaijani “eco-activists” blockaded the Lachin corridor, the only road connecting Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) with the rest of the world in an attempt to force the ethnic Armenian population to leave their ancestral homeland.

Then, On April 23rd, Azerbaijan established a checkpoint at the Lachin corridor entrance effectively obstructing the movement of people and vehicle to and from Artsakh.

Humanitarian aid shipments, delivered with the help of Russian peacekeepers to Artsakh are being disrupted by Azerbaijan’s new checkpoint, ARKA reports.
