USAID supports economic recovery from COVID-19 in Europe and Eurasia through private sector financing. USAID in partnership with the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation will ensure businesses have access to the capital they need to recover and drive long-term economic growth in Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

USAID facilitated a $15 million loan guarantee by the DFC and the Swedish government to support increased lending to small and medium-sized businesses in Georgia. The loan guarantee will prioritize women-owned enterprises, innovative startups, and businesses located in regions where credit is scarcest.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, USAID in partnership with the Swedish government unlocked $23.3 million in financing over the next five years via the DFC to bolster access to credit, investment, and job creation in high-potential sectors of the economy. It will also build on the success of the USAID BiH Diaspora Marketplace project and the Swedish Challenge fund by linking high performing entrepreneurs to Procredit bank for potential commercial financing.
