According to Davit Mirtskhulava, Chairman of the National Committee for Large Dams in Georgia and former Minister of Energy, USD 4 billion worth of investment projects have been suspended in the Georgian energy sector.

He spoke about this with BM.GE at the regional energy conference organized by GNERC and GNERC Energy Training Center.

Davit Mirtskhulava declares, that these projects were suspended until 2019 amid the good investment climate.

"In 2013-2019, a capacity of 1,300 megawatts came into force in the country. If we look at the history of Georgian energy, this is one of the most fruitful periods, but there are some hydro mega projects - Khudoni, Namakhvani, Nenskra, which have not been implemented yet. These projects are very important for Georgian energy, as well as for the development of other renewable energies - solar and wind, because the integration of these energies in the energy system is a very big problem. For that, they need the existence of this type of hydroelectric power plants,” said Davit Mirtskhulava.
