As a result of August 4 trading, the Georgian national currency Lari (GEL) appreciated against the US dollar (USD). The change in the exchange rate against the dollar was 0.88 tetri, as a result of which the official value of the dollar became 2.7244 GEL, the lowest since May 8, 2019.
According to the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), the national currency increase 0.60 tetri against the euro (EUR), as a result of which the official value of one euro became 2.7775 GEL.
The 0.83-tetri appreciation is against the British pound sterling (GBP), the price of which has become 3.3216 GEL.
Georgia's national currency increased by 0.06 tetri vs Turkish lira (TRY) and rate became 15.16 tetri.
The rates obtained as a result of today's trading will take effect from tomorrow, August 5.
Georgian lari has been appreciating for the recent weeks. In response, on August 1, the National Bank of Georgia has purchased 10 million dollars at foreign exchange auction to control the national currency’s changing value against the US dollar.
The average weighted bid rate was 2.7514 for 1 USD.
This was the second time that the National Bank has bought dollars on the foreign exchange auction. The previous dollar auction took place on May 24, when NBG purchased $10 million.
