Losses in the Russian tourism industry exceeded 1.5 trillion rubles

Russian Travel Sector Association (RST) President Andrey Ignatyev made evaluations about the situation in the Russian tourism sector in the context of the Covid-19 outbreak at a press conference in Yekaterinburg, Russia .

Pointing out that approximately 2.5 million people are employed in the Russian tourism sector, İgnatyev said, "About 6 million people are working in tourism related sectors. We hope that the tourism sector will be one of the main factors of the recovery in the Russian economy." he spoke.

Indicating that the recovery process has started in the sector with the summer season, İgnatyev said, "The loss of the sector has exceeded 1.5 trillion rubles in the first 6 months of the year. Recovery in the process of returning to pre-crisis levels will take at least 1.5 years." said.

Regarding when international flights between Russia and other countries are expected to start, Ignatiev said, "Flights can start in mid-August. Most likely, they will start with Commonwealth countries." found the assessment.

On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Transport said in a statement that the airports in the country will be completed by July 13 to start international flights again.

Russia extended the ban on international flights until August 1, due to Covid-19.
