Volume Of Loans Issued By Commercial Banks In January 2023 Decreased By GEL 317 MLN

The National Bank of Georgia publishes a report about the current tendencies of resident commercial banks' loan portfolio as of January 2023.

Accoridng to the document, the volume of loans issued by commercial banks (excluding interbank loans) in January 2023 decreased by 317.70 million GEL or by 0.71% compared to the previous month (exchange rate effect excluded, decreased by 0.08%) and constituted 44.47 billion GEL by the end of January 2023. The volume of loans in national currency decreased by 189.93 million GEL (0.77%) and the volume of loans in foreign currency decreased by 127.77 million GEL or by 0.63% in the same period (exchange rate effect excluded, increased by 0.76%).

"By the end of January 2023, the total volume of national currency denominated loans to resident legal entities issued by commercial banks amounted to 7.37 billion GEL (3.07% less compared to the previous month), and foreign currency denominated loans constituted 12.37 billion GEL (1.73% less; exchange rate effect excluded volume of lending in foreign currency decreased by 0.35%).

During January 2023, the volume of lending to resident household sector increased by 0.55% or 130.95 million GEL, and constituted 23.79 billion GEL by the end of January 2023.

Larization ratio for total loans constituted 55.01% by the end of January 2023 and decreased by 0.03 percentage point (exchange rate effect excluded, decreased by 0.38 percentage point), compared to the end of December 2022", - the NBG report reads.
