Tamaz Daushvili, CEO of company Dio, assesses the business environment in Georgia and says that the new Prime Minister and the government must focus on attracting investments.

“We cannot move forward with adopting an ostrich position”, Tamaz Daushvili declares, explaining it is important to see the challenges that the country faces amid the pandemic.

“The idea of Business House, where the business could receive all services in one space was very interesting, but the project was suspended. It is especially important when the matter concerns to investments. Georgia is in a great competition. If we think that Georgia is a place where everyone is eager to invest. We think that our ratings are deteriorated. However, investors are becoming even more conservative amid the pandemic and make focus on those markets, where investments will be more secured. They take fewer risks”, Tamaz Daushvili said.

According to the CEO of company Dio, the challenge for the next government is how to make the country more attractive to investors. He notes, that if a sufficient amount of foreign investments is not attracted in the country, there is no way out of the economic crisis.

“No matter how much privileges the government gives to the business, including loan subsidy, as it would be miserable comparing to the foreign investments, which ensures opening of factories and exporting Georgian products abroad. If the industry worked, we would not be so dependent on tourism. I have communications with Poland, Germany, where the impact of the pandemic is not felt so, on the contrary, their production has increased because products can no longer be imported from China. Consequently, the country must be industrialized. The challenge is very big and they need an appropriate answer", Tamaz Daushvili declares.
