The legislative initiative of the former business ombudsman and current MP Mikheil Daushvili, became the subject of controversy in the one-party parliament on January 4.

Mikheil Daushvili initiated amendments to the Labor Code.

The point is that the amended bill provides removal of Article 2. 3 from the Labor Code, which ensures prohibition of any form of discrimination.

"Article 4 of the Labor Code gives a lot of good leverage to the employee to protect his rights in labor relations, but Article 4 does not mention the competition, the moment of announcing a vacancy and pre-contractual relations. Consequently, the norm you are proposing to remove is an additional lever in the hands of the employed person to better protect his rights if he has to go to the court; That is why I believe that this is a step backward in labor relations. We have a high standard, but you want it to be down. It cannot be removed from the Labor Code, ” Tsulukiani addressed Mikheil Daushvili.

Finally, the Speaker of Parliament proposed to the initiator of the amendments to leave the mentioned paragraph in the Code. Mikheil Daushvili considered the submitted proposal and finally, the Parliament approved the bill with the mentioned paragraph. As for the other two bills included in the package of amendments, their voting was postponed until the January 5 sitting in order to hold additional consultations.
