Poultry companies are struggling to maintain production levels because of very high feed prices. Companies note that product price has increased by 15-20%. The poultry sector is largely dependent on Russia, because the feed, inclduing wheat or corn, is imported from there. Due to the Russia-Ukraine War, these products have become significantly expensive.

According to Revaz Vashakidze, the founder of Chirina company, a sharp increase in prices is expected and the market "must say goodbye to cheap chicken meat and eggs".

"All ingredients, both imported or local are increased in price. So, product cost will rise even more - by 20%. I can give a simple example, the price of fertilizers has increased by almost 100%, if we add logistics costs, it will be reflected in the price. Our forecast is that sharp growth is expected," says Revaz Vashakidze.

In January-August 2022, eggs worth USD 1.334 million were exported from the country, while in the same period of the previous year, it slightly exceeded USD 851.6 thousand. As for imports, this year, in January-August, eggs worth USD 3.1 million entered Georgia, and last year, in 8 months, Georgia purchased products worth USD 207.4 thousand.
