We have been saying from the very beginning that this document would be sent to the Venice Commission. Naturally, we cannot show respect for European structures better than this, - Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze said.

According to him, the statements that the so-called agents draft law is Russian and it distances us from EU candidate status is a lie.

According to Kobakhidze, the final version of the law will depend on the opinion of the Venice Commission.

"The discussion will continue. The final form of the law will depend on the opinion of the Venice Commission and the consideration of the law in the second reading in the Parliament.

There was a campaign based on lies that it was a Russian law, which is a lie. It was said that this document distances us from the candidate status, which is also a lie. We fully respect the European structures and we have been saying from the very beginning that this document would be sent to the Venice Commission. Naturally, you cannot show respect for European structures better than this," Kobakhidze said.

The Georgian Parliament adopted the People’s Power-tabled draft bill on Transparency of Foreign Influence in its first reading, with 76 votes in favour and 13 against on March 7.
