Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has declared, that Georgia and Hungary plan to cooperate on energy issues.

According to Orban, it is possible for Hungary to receive electricity from Azerbaijan via Georgia and Romania. In addition, according to him, it is planned to cooperate in other directions as well.

"We also touched on the energy issue at the meetings. I would like to inform the Hungarian public that major energy initiatives are being developed and this is of interest to us. We want to have new, large electricity transmission lines and to receive electricity from Azerbaijan through Georgia and Romania. With this initiative, we will save a lot of natural gas that we use to generate electricity. If this electricity is supplied directly to us in the future, then we will no longer have to purchase natural gas. I was very happy that Mr. Prime Minister supports this initiative. This issue is of principle importance for Hungary. We want to overcome the energy crisis, the crisis caused by high prices. A lot can be done in terms of getting energy resources from outside the EU. We want this to bear fruit not only in the short term, but also in the long term. We import on a very large scale from distant countries. The head of the Government of Georgia and I will have an intergovernmental meeting in Georgia next year. It will be preceded by a meeting between the heads of various ministries. We will have a significant incentive for economic cooperation," Orban said.
