Regulation of the gambling sector is being tightened. Taxes for owners of online casinos in Georgia will be increased, advertising will be banned and the age limit for users will be raised to 25 years,- according to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

After the government meeting, the Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili clarified the issue, saying that the presentation of the new model of regulation will take place in a week, and the planned changes will completely change the "taxable base of gambling".

"The initiative provides introduction of new regulations in the field of gambling business, which aim to reduce the attractiveness and accessibility of online games as much as possible. Changes in both quantitative and structural terms, a completely different taxation model will be presented, which will be in line with the sound principles, there will be some changes, including the introduction of a joint age limit, as well as a ban on advertising, which in turn contributes to certain attractiveness and availability. This is a framework that has been tested in many countries.

The system we have now allows us to move to a new stage of regulation”, - Lasha Khutsishvili said.

According to the Minister of Finance, the tax burden will increase, but it does not mean that everything will be completely banned this or next year.
