Giorgi Khanishvili, the First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture declares that the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture has prepared a regulation on almonds and walnuts, which will be developed jointly with the associations and then sent to the government for approval.

The government will approve the new regulation in a few months. The new protocol defines different norms for walnuts and almonds, including quality, weight, fat content and etc.

The Deputy Minister explains that without those regulations, Georgian products have to go through several types of inspection in Europe after the exports, otherwise they will return them back.

"The basis for adopting this regulation is the Association Agreement with the EU, which outlines all the protocols that our products must meet. Quite interesting documents are prepared, which define the parameters of both almonds and walnuts, terminological name, each additive, etc. These documents are in line with European standards and our products must meet these criteria before being exported. When we certify a product here that it really meets the requirements of the technical regulations, it will make it easier to export to EU countries," - said Khanishvili.

After the approval of the regulations, the quality certificate will be issued by the National Food Agency of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture.
