What are the infection rates in the private sector?

As of the decision of the Government of Georgia, the state provides funding for antigen tests for the people employed in the private sector. Business representatives can take rapid tests for free until late this month.

Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control, presented the results of the tested persons on COVID from the private sector.

In particular, as of March 27:

Taxi drivers: tested persons - 30,149 people, positivity rate - 0.4%;
Market Traders: tested persons - 33,048, positivity rate - 0.2%;
Servants of God: tested persons - 17,324, positivity rate - 0.8%;
Employees of malls and shopping centers: tested persons- 25 198; positivity rate - 0.2%;
Schools and kindergartens: tested persons - 266,118; positivity rate - 0.2%;
Random testing (school, transport, police): tested persons - 73,618; a positivity rate - 0.5%;
Museums, libraries, theaters: tested persons – 3866, positivity rate - 0.1%;
Gyms, saunas, swimming pool staff: tested persons – 2051; positivity rate - 0.2%.

As for restaurants, Amiran Gamkrelidze notes that restaurant employees are not tested on coronavirus by the state.

"Restaurant employees supposedly are tested for private, but this information is not available to us. When someone conducts a test for private, the laboratory must upload a positive response on the web-site. Maybe the laboratory does the same, but we do not know how many tests are performed. In addition, the tests are already sold in pharmacies and people can take the COVID test by themselves”, said Amiran Gamkrelidze.
