The building of the former residence of the President of Georgia in Mestia, was sold for 7.5 million GEL last week at a public auction. The bidding price was more than 308% above its initial value. The new owner of the property is "Aigvinissakhli", which 100%-shareholder is Benedikte (Beno) Kashakashvili.

According to the terms of the auction, the winning company undertakes to build a functioning hotel within 42 months. The amount must be paid within 45 calendar days.

As Beno Kashakashvili, the new owner of the facility told Bm.GE, they will start active works in summer of 2020. According to the businessman, it is impossible to even make a topographical plan on the spot, considering the climate conditions of Mestia.

As for the financial part, the businessman cannot name the funds needed to carry out the project in advance.

"As it is winter, even the topographic plan in Svaneti is a problem. According to the project, this should be a hotel, it will not be a building that does not fit to that beautiful, historic place. It would be a Downhouse. The current building needs renovation. The president has not visited that place for 9 years, so no one has lived there. You can guess how the abandoned building will look after 9 winters ", - says businessman Beno Kashakashvili.

To note: Mestia Presidential Residence was built in 2011. It includes land area of 2,592 sq. m. and buildings of 11,310 sq. m.
