About two millions of words are searched by Georgians via google every day. The list of top most rising topics during 2020 incorporated Coronavirus and Worldometers (website where we see daily stats of Covid cases in the world), Online Meetings (search terms like Zoom, Teams, et al), Weather, Soap operas, Animes and Movies, Games, Sports and Gambling, Loans, and TikTok.

“Google is the unconditional search engine in Georgia which is used by 95% of Georgian Internet users. It is followed by yandex.com, booking.com, youtube.com and mail.ru”, said Merab Gotsiridze, Chief Digital Officer at AdvertWise.

It is interesting that in Georgia, like in other countries of the world, youtube.com and booking.com are transforming into search engines. As Gotsiridze explained, more and more people prefer to get answers on their questions from videos, that’s why youtube.com is raising popularity as a search engine. “As for booking.com, if for example, you search for hotels in Batumi, you will get comprehensive answers regarding this city hotels via booking, and then try to contact the hotel you want by yourself,” Gotsiridze told BM.GE.

Pursuant to Gotsiridze, Elections, Karabakh Conflict, TV shows, Champions League, Mtavari Arkhi, iPhone 12 and Enterprise Georgia – were the top most rising topics during October 2020.

As for politicians, Zurab Japaridze co-founder of a Libertarian party called Girchi, was leading the list of the most frequently searched Georgian politicians in October. He was followed by Giorgi Vashadze founder of political party Strategy Aghmashenebeli and Irakli Kobakhidze, former Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, current Executive Secretary and Political Council Member of the ruling party Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia. After them, the third President of Georgia – Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgian PM – Giorgi Gakharia and Nika Melia, UNM member were the most searched politicians in October 2020.

In political category, the top searched words during parliamentary elections of Georgia (Oct 31 – Nov 1) were “Archevnebi” (elections) 2020, Cesko (CEC), Mtavari Arkhi and Rustavi 2.

As of the most popular political figures of Georgia, like Bidzina Ivanishvili, Giorgi Gakharia and Mikheil Saakashvili, billionaire Ivanishvili is almost twice less popular among Google searchers in Georgia than Gakharia and Saakashvili. These recent two had around 1, 700 searches per month, while Ivanishvili has been searched only 1,000 times.
