The Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture responds to the expected wheat price increase. According to Otar Shamugia, the Ministry is monitoring the current processes, it is planned to discuss the solutions acceptable to the population with the representatives of the sector.

"We are monitoring these processes. You have seen that for a period of time there were disruptions in the supply of wheat and this was replaced by imports of flour. Later, this situation was corrected and we reached the point where the prices of certain categories of bread were reduced by 10 tetri. We did not actively interfere in these processes, thus we were able to fulfill our main task, which was not to increase bread prices.

Even now, we see that the price of wheat changes frequently. It is possible that the price will increase. We will observe the events and discuss with the sector again in order to make such decisions that will be acceptable to our population first of all", said Otar Shamugia.

Russia increased the wheat export tax by 52%. Export tax per ton wheat amounts to 2,934 rublesat this stage. Russia is still the main supplier of wheat for Georgia.
