"Ambassador Degnan is in Washington, DC, for regularly scheduled meetings with senior officials from the State Department and across the U.S. government," - US Embassy in Tbilisi told BM.GE.

BMG is expecting more details on specific topics being discussed during these meetings earlier next week from Washington

Earlier today, Acting US Ambassador to Georgia Rian Harris released a video addressing the ongoing events in Ukraine.

"You know the horrible human cost of Russian aggression. Earlier this week, Russian officials said they planned to de-escalate the situation and withdraw troops. Unfortunately, Russia's actions do not match their words. Georgians know best about Russia's empty promises. You were taught this by your own history - in 1801, 1921, and 2008. As Secretary of State Blinken said, actions speak louder than words.

Unfortunately, despite Russia's claims, 150,000 Russian troops are mobilized with heavy military weapons and equipment capable of rapid incursions. We do not know exactly how things will turn out, but we assume that Russia will try to create an excuse for the attack. Our allies and partners see the same thing," said the acting ambassador.

According to her, the United States, together with its partners and allies, is still trying to resolve this conflict through diplomatic means, offering Russia a chance for de-escalation, but not giving up the security and self-determination of partners and allies.

"Russia says it is looking for a peaceful solution, but the Russians must confirm this with concrete action. Ukrainians, like Georgians, have chosen to unite ties with the Euro-Atlantic community. No country has the right to obstruct this path to their future. The United States stands by Ukraine. America stands by Georgia, which has chosen independence, freedom, and dignity.

If Russia ignores our diplomatic efforts and invades Ukraine again, it will be a clear choice of war. If Russia makes that choice, the response of the United States and our partners will be sharp and decisive. We do not choose controversy. We prefer to work together to combat the global pandemic and many other urgent common problems. Diplomacy is the only sensible way to resolve this conflict. We stand firm and together against Russian aggression," Rian Harris said.
