Georgia shipped three coronavirus vaccines AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Sinopfarm. Health Ministry notes, that the second Chinese vaccine Sinovac will be rolled out soon.
It worth noting that the Vaccination Pre-Registration Portal launched by the Ministry of Health showed, that Pfizer and Moderna are in high demand, while demand is low on Sinopharm and Sinovac.
At a press conference after the Coordination Council, journalists asked Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control, why we are introducing large doses of Chinese-made vaccines when demand for them is low, to which the head of the NCDC replied:
"Today, about 920 million people are vaccinated worldwide. Off which more than 200 million took AstraZeneca jab, more than 200 million - Chinese vaccines - Sinopharm or Sinovac, 170-180 million - Pfizer, over 120 million - Moderna, 20-30 million citizens are vaccinated with the Indian-made vaccine "Kovaxin" and also several millions are vaccinated with the Russian "Sputnik V" and other vaccines.
These vaccines are characterized by a variety of protective abilities against the spread of infection, hospitalization, and mortality.
According to various studies, Pfizer has the highest protective ability - 95%, but we will see this in practice; Moderna - 94%; Sputnik - 91%; AstraZeneca - 65% -89%; Sinopharm - 79% -86%; Sinovac - 51%. As for virus development and mortality, all of these vaccines have almost the same protection from 85% to 95% -100%.
"In the most successful countries, such as Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates - have used small amounts of Pfizer, in other cases they use Chinese vaccines," said Amiran Gamkrelidze.
