Georgian Parliament’s Speaker Shalva Papuashvili explained the procedure for the election of a new President.
According to the Speaker, the President’s election date will be determined and the Central Election Commission (CEC) will set up a Collegium staffed by 300 members.
The Collegium will comprise 150 MPs while the other half will include 20 members of the Supreme Council of the Abkhazian Autonomous Republic, 21 members of the Adjara Supreme Council and the rest of the 190 members will represent self-governance bodies per the proportion of the parties’ support won in 2021-2022.
“These procedures await us next week and are an important moment for our people, our voters. I am confident that everyone is waiting for the next week with interest,” Papuashvili said.
The 11th Convocation Parliament of Georgia will hold the first sitting on November 25.
