Starting January 1, 2026, veterinarians in Georgia are required to hold a state-issued license to practice, the National Food Agency (NFA) announced.
According to the agency, 800 veterinarians and 444 veterinary technicians have registered with the Professional Development and Certification Council and successfully obtained certification, a total of 1,244 professionals. Certificates are valid until January 1, 2030.
The NFA emphasizes that mandatory certification will improve the quality of veterinary services, align practices with international standards, protect public and animal health, prevent unqualified practice, and strengthen the rights of those in the veterinary profession.
Under Government Decree №288, veterinary practice without a state certificate will be prohibited starting January 1, 2026.
