Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze stated that the ongoing verification of Georgia’s social assistance database will assess families using a combination of criteria. The review aims to ensure only those who truly need support remain eligible, as some registered families no longer require state assistance.
Sarjveladze noted anomalous cases, such as families receiving aid despite earning tens of thousands of lari in the past three months or owning multiple expensive vehicles purchased in 2025, sometimes with bank loans.
The ministry is fully prepared to conduct systematic checks in the coming months, prioritizing families likely not meeting eligibility requirements. For instance, families receiving over 2,000 lari monthly in the last three months will be reviewed.
The minister emphasized that income or assets alone do not automatically revoke status. The assessment considers dozens of factors, including utility payments and overall financial and social conditions, to determine eligibility. The 2,000-lari threshold triggers a review, not automatic removal.
