40 Traders Fined With GEL 33,000 For Violating Consumer Rights In 7M25 - GCCA

In the first seven months of 2025, the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency received a total of 733 formal consumer complaints and responded to 2310 telephone inquiries concerning consumer rights. This represents a 45% increase in complaints compared to the same period of the previous year.

- During the reporting period, the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) identified 87 violations of consumer group rights in 13 cases.

- Due to non-compliance with obligations imposed by the GCCA, 40 traders were fined in 87 cases, with total penalties amounting to 33000 GEL.

- For consumer protection, 94 commitment agreements were signed in 104 cases, where traders committed to modifying their internal business policies and restoring the rights of affected consumers who suffered due to unfair business practices.

In 2025, 67% of the applications received by the consumer refer to online trading, and 33% to the case of purchasing the item on the spot. According to regions, Tbilisi continues to lead with 79%, followed by Adjara with 5%, Imereti 4%, Kakheti 3%, Kvemo Kartli 2% and other regions.

Based on seven-month data, the demand for a refund is 245, the repair of a defective item is 231, 125 for restoring the right to a defective service, 44 for items delivered within the specified time frame, 26 related to the prohibition of misleading practices, and the rest is 62.

According to statistics, 73% is the wholesale and retail sector, transport and warehousing 10%, and other activities 17%.
