500,000 fir-trees are sold annually in the retail chain of REWE in Germany, - Zhana Babunashvili, Project Planning and Development Manager at Fair Trees Foundation told BM.GE.
Speaking to BM.GE, Zhana Babunashvili explains that fir-trees from Racha are sold under the Fair Trade brand, which means that the company sells Georgian fir-trees under the most moral and ethical brand. According to her, 90% of the 45 million spruces on the market are fir-trees from Racha.
“500,000 fir-trees from Racha region are sold annually in the REWE hypermarket chain in Germany. The price for a 1 -1.2 meter spruce is EUR 35-40. As a result, the spruce industry of a multibillion-dollar starts in one of the poorest regions - Racha, ”Zhana Babunashvili explained.
