551 Russian and 8 Ukrainian citizens received Georgian citizenship. The relevant information has been spread by the Institute for the Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) based on the information provided by the Presidential Administration.
"In 2019-2022, Russian citizens significantly predominate among the people receiving Georgian citizenship. In 2019, 1,219 Russian citizens were granted Georgian citizenship (in addition to restoration of Georgian citizenship). In 2020, this figure decreased to 629, and in 2021, it increased to 1,342. As of July 7, 2022, Georgian citizenship was granted to 723 citizens of Russia.
The analysis of the statistical data on the granting of Georgian citizenship shows that during the last 5 years Georgian citizenship was mostly granted to Russian citizens. The desire of Russian citizens to obtain Georgian citizenship is expected to increase even more, taking into account the situation created after Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 (expected long-term sanctions, persecution of people with different views, etc.)," reads the information released by IDFI.
