Around 81,000 families will no longer have to pay property tax after the income threshold for the exemption is raised from GEL 40,000 to GEL 100,000, Revenue Service Head Mamuka Baratashvili said. Under the current rules, these families would have collectively paid around GEL 22 million in property tax.
The change means families with annual income of up to GEL 100,000 will be exempt from the tax. The bill was prepared jointly by the Finance Ministry and Parliament and is currently being considered under an accelerated procedure.
Baratashvili said the accelerated review is intended to allow eligible individuals to benefit from the tax relief this year. Under the current system, families with annual income exceeding GEL 40,000 are required to pay property tax if they own a car, house or other real estate.
According to Finance Ministry Treasury data, individuals paid a total of GEL 114 million in property tax in January-November 2025.
