Head of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs and deputy from the ruling faction "Civil Contract," Babken Tunyan, expressed his opinion on the possibility of purchasing gas from Azerbaijan.

He emphasized that if there is a country in need of gas and there is a country that supplies it, there are no obstacles to discussing such a possibility.

However, at the moment, there are no agreements or preliminary agreements on this issue, the deputy said, noting that it is important for Armenia to buy energy resources where it is more profitable and cheaper. He also emphasized the need to reduce dependence on a single source of gas supplies.

Despite the theoretical possibility of purchasing gas from Azerbaijan, it is not currently on the agenda, Tunyan explained. Before starting discussions on this issue, it is necessary to establish relations with Azerbaijan, he said.

Tunyan also noted that Armenia is working on diversifying gas supplies, but supplies from Iran and Russia currently fully meet the country's gas needs.

Earlier, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated that Armenia would be able to purchase Azerbaijani gas in the future.

According to him, Azerbaijan practically provides Georgia with favorable and preferential gas. Therefore, Aliyev believes that Armenia will also be able to buy Azerbaijani gas.
