Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Kristine Galechyan announced the necessity of constructing a new tunnel in Dilijan.

At a meeting of the Armenian Parliament's Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs Committee, she stated that the restoration project for the tunnel would be modified, and a new construction project would be presented instead.

This project also includes the restoration of the Pushkin Tunnel. Galechyan noted that the Dilijan Tunnel has issues with lighting, fire safety, and evacuation systems. The authorities aim to meet the European Union's tunnel safety standards.

The committee gave a positive conclusion to the amendments to the loan agreement with the Asian Development Bank for the construction of the new tunnel. The amendments propose extending the current agreement until August 31, 2024.

The Dilijan-Sevan Tunnel is a road tunnel connecting the southwest of Tavush Province in Armenia with the northeast of Gegharkunik Province. The tunnel is 2257 meters long, 8 meters wide, and 5 meters high.
