The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has charged a person with causing financial damage to citizens by creating a fake website to sell tickets for Sting's concert in Tbilisi.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the investigation established that in August 2024, the accused created a fraudulent "phishing" website. The individual promoted this fake website via Facebook, offering users the opportunity to purchase tickets for the British singer Sting’s concert in Tbilisi.

When users selected a specific ticket and the number of tickets, the website would automatically redirect them to an online payment platform, and the money would be transferred to cryptocurrency wallets and bank accounts pre-designated by the accused.

The investigation revealed that as a result of this fraudulent activity, victims suffered significant financial losses.

The accused has been charged under Article 286 Prima, Part 2, Subparagraph "b" of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to the unauthorized modification and concealment of computer data for financial gain, causing significant financial harm to victims. This offense carries a penalty of 5 to 7 years of imprisonment.

The Prosecutor’s Office intends to file a motion in court within the legally prescribed timeframe, requesting pretrial detention for the accused. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues its investigation into the case.
