Actions Of The Georgian Gov't Will Not Go Without A Response - Congressman

ბილ კიტინგი

The actions of the Georgian government will not go without a response, - said Congressman Bill Keating (Democratic Party) at the hearing held in the House of Representatives on the political situation in Georgia and Moldova ahead the 2024 elections.

In addition, according to him, the USA will continue to support the Georgian people.

Keating also spoke about China in his speech. According to the congressman, while Georgian Dream praises the trade agreement and visa liberalization regime with China, Beijing actively supports Russia's aggressive war in Ukraine, moreover, the Kremlin continues to occupy 20% of Georgia's territory.

Accordingly, according to his statement, the Georgian Dream government signs agreements with those who support the occupier of Georgia.

"Unfortunately, despite the population's support and constitutional obligations to join the European Union and NATO, the ruling Georgian Dream party has lost the country's Euro-Atlantic path.

Just last month, Georgian Dream adopted a Kremlin-inspired "foreign agents" bill to pressure civil society and freedom of expression.

Today I have two messages for the Georgian government and the Georgian people. First, to the Government of Georgia: your actions will not go without a response. In May, the Department of State adopted the first tranche of visa restrictions for officials and, importantly, their family members. As long as the government of Georgia continues to trample democracy and the rule of law, I have no doubt that this administration will continue to impose visa restrictions and financial sanctions as necessary.

Moreover, while Georgian Dream praises the trade agreement and visa liberalization regime with China, it is important to remember that Beijing actively supports Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine, while the Kremlin continues to occupy 20% of Georgia's territory in the midst of this illegal war.
