On September 2–3, Ambassadori Island Batumi is hosting 50 pilots arriving in Batumi as part of an international aviation expedition. The expedition participants arrived in Georgia aboard private aircraft from various European countries and the United States. Among them are pilots from France, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Portugal, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Türkiye, and Great Britain.
During their visit to Batumi, the pilots will experience the Ambassadori Island Batumi project first-hand. They will explore the scale of the island, review the works already completed and the ongoing construction progress, and learn more about the project’s development vision and future plans. Particular attention will be given to the aviation infrastructure incorporated into the project, including a runway, the development of which will create the opportunity to accommodate private aviation flights to the island in the future. One of the project’s unique directions is the development of air connectivity between local resorts, other regions of Georgia, and the rest of the world.
The Private Pilot Expedition to Georgia 2026 is taking place from August 29 to September 12 along the route Luxembourg – Georgia – Luxembourg. Covering more than 4,000 nautical miles, one of the expedition’s key objectives is to promote Georgia, including Batumi and Adjara, as an attractive, accessible, and exciting flying and tourism destination for private and general aviation. During the visit, participants will also have the opportunity to experience first-hand the infrastructural, tourism, and aviation potential of Batumi and Adjara.
The international aviation network associated with the initiative brings together approximately 17,000 members from countries around the world, creating a significant opportunity to increase the international visibility of Batumi and Adjara, promote new aviation routes, and introduce the region to a wider private aviation audience.
The expedition includes 26 aircraft — 20 European and 6 Turkish crews — operating ULM ultralight and general aviation (GA) aircraft. The initiative is coordinated by Peter Sodermans, Honorary Consul of Georgia in Luxembourg, and is supported by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association of Luxembourg (AOPA Luxembourg), the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association of Türkiye (AOPA Türkiye), and the Honorary Consulate of Georgia in Luxembourg.
Following their visit to Batumi, the expedition participants will continue to Kakheti, where the official opening of Ambassadori Aviation Village will take place. The development of new aviation infrastructure and the organization of the expedition aim to support the growth of private aviation and aviation tourism in Georgia, promote new air routes, and strengthen the positioning of the country, including Adjara and Kakheti, as attractive and accessible destinations on the international general aviation map.
