Ambrolauri’s local airport, which opened on 20 January 2017, has served 16,481 passengers and 1,060 flights over the past nine years. The airport significantly reduced travel time between Natakhtari and Ambrolauri to just 35 minutes, improving accessibility to the region.
According to Levan Moseshvili, Director of the United Airports of Georgia, the airport has played a key role in boosting tourism in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti. Increased visitor inflows have encouraged the development of new hotels and guesthouses, stimulated economic activity, and created additional jobs. The airport itself employs 20 people.
Ambrolauri Airport currently serves small, 15-seat aircraft, though future plans include accommodating larger planes and expanding the terminal if passenger numbers grow. The airport features an 1,100-meter runway and a 600-square-meter terminal designed to serve around 50 passengers at a time.
Domestic flights to Ambrolauri are operated by Service Air under the Vanilla Sky brand. According to the airline, a one-way ticket on the Natakhtari–Ambrolauri route costs 50 GEL for adults and 35 GEL for children aged 3–12.
