Amiran Gamkrelidze, the head of the National Center for Disease Control claims that "serious preparations are underway for vaccination."
According to Amiran Gamkrelidze, refrigeration equipment operating at -20 degrees exists at the municipalities, while there are over 40 refrigerators working at -70-80 degrees in the country, and several more are in the process of purchase, after which the system will be arranged in the big cities.
“Georgia has a well-functioning cold chain system up to -2-8 degrees and can freely receive vaccines that do not require low temperatures, including the vaccine produced by AstraZeneca," he said.
As for the "Moderna" vaccine, Gamkrelidze notes, that -20 degrees Celsius refrigerators are enough at the municipal level and the country can get this vaccine, while in the case of Pfizer, which requires -70 degree cold chain, there are about 40 refrigerators in the country and they are busy, but a few can be released.
"Purchase of refrigerators is already started if we decide to bring Pfizer vaccine”, Amiran Gamkrelidze said and added that “information campaign on vaccination will be needed”.
