APM Terminals Poti handled 1,082 car containers in January 2026, marking a year-on-year decline from 1,483 containers processed during the same month in 2025, the company reported.
Overall container throughput, however, showed strong growth. The terminal processed 54,527 TEUs in January, up 15% from 47,265 TEUs in January 2025 and significantly higher than 42,588 TEUs in 2024. The number of container vessels arriving at the port also increased by 34%, rising to 35 ships, compared with 26 arrivals in both 2025 and 2024.
General cargo volumes fell sharply, totaling 16,612 tons in January 2026, down from 31,356 tons a year earlier.
Passenger cars remain Georgia’s top import category. In 2025, the country imported vehicles worth $3.5 billion, an 11.8% annual increase, with automobiles accounting for 21.3% of total imports.
