The Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) has reported its consumer rights protection outcomes for the first eight months of 2025, recording 838 applications and 2,570 calls - a 47% increase in applications compared to the same period in 2024.
- During the reporting period, the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) identified 98 violations of consumer group rights in 147 cases.
- Due to non-compliance with obligations imposed by the GCCA, 50 traders were fined in 89 cases, with total penalties amounting to 104 742 GEL.
- For consumer protection, 106 commitment agreements were signed in 115 cases, where traders committed to modifying their internal business policies and restoring the rights of affected consumers who suffered due to unfair business practices.
In 2025, 67% of the applications received by the consumer refer to online trading, and 33% to the case of purchasing the item on the spot. According to regions, Tbilisi continues to lead with 79%, followed by Adjara with 5%, Imereti 4%, Kakheti 3%, Kvemo Kartli 2% and other regions.
Based on eight-month data, the demand for a refund is 286, the repair of a defective item is 262, 138 for restoring the right to a defective service, 57 for items delivered within the specified time frame, 28 related to the prohibition of misleading practices, unconditional return of goods –20 cases and the rest is 47.
According to statistics, 74% is the wholesale and retail sector, transport and warehousing 10%, and other activities 16%.
