According to Armenia’s border checkpoint statistics, there was a negative balance in border crossings by Armenian passport holders from January to August 2024.

As reported by banksnews.am, the difference between entries and exits totaled -24,148 registrations.

An unexpected trend was the outflow of Indian nationals, with a net difference of -5,597 border crossings. Meanwhile, Russian citizens continued to arrive, with a positive balance of 18,797 entries over exits.

A positive trend was also noted among Georgian nationals, showing a net inflow of 4,885 entries.

In recent years, Armenia has become a popular destination for Indian labor migrants, who predominantly work in the food service, delivery, and construction sectors.

Earlier, BMG reported that on October 24, the Armenian government decided to tighten entry procedures for citizens of India, Iraq, and Egypt to better regulate migration flows and prevent illegal immigration.

According to the justification provided, between January 1 and August 28, 2024, 11,965 Indian nationals, 658 Egyptians, and 255 Iraqis arrived in Armenia and currently reside there illegally.
