Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan held a meeting with Tafadzwa Dubi, Senior Disaster Risk Management Specialist at the World Bank, on December 6. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister Sevak Mikaelyan and Chair of the Tourism Committee Lusine Gevorgyan.
According to the Ministry of Economy, the parties discussed the progress of two significant projects: the Local Economy and Infrastructure Development Program (LEIDP) and the Tourism and Regional Infrastructure Improvement Program (TRIP). Particular attention was given to the financial aspects of these initiatives, the framework for prioritized actions, and potential timelines for their implementation.
The discussion also focused on the prospects for Armenia's tourism sector, emphasizing opportunities to expand tourism clusters with World Bank support. Specifically, detailed discussions were held regarding the development of a tourism cluster in Gyumri.
Earlier, BMG reported that as of late October 2024, Armenia had welcomed 1.95 million tourists, marking a 6% decline compared to the same period last year. However, it is expected that the total number of visitors will reach 2 million by the end of the year.
