The Armenian government has proposed amendments to the Tax Code, expanding the list of excise-taxable products in the petroleum category.
This was announced by Deputy Chairman of the State Revenue Committee, Artur Manukyan, during a session of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Economic Affairs on October 17.
Under the new regulations, lubricants, gasoline, and diesel fuel, excluding aviation types, will be subject to excise tax. Additionally, additives and hydraulic fluids will also be taxed.
Manukyan explained that while some of these products are not gasoline, they can be processed into low-quality fuel. For such products, the same excise tax rate as gasoline is being proposed.
MP Babken Tunyan emphasized that the goal of these changes is not to increase tax revenue, but to protect drivers from the risks of using low-quality fuel, which could damage vehicle engines.
According to the State Revenue Committee, approximately 4,500 tons of liquid additives for boosting gasoline octane levels were imported into the country last year, and around 3 tons have been imported so far this year.
The Economic Affairs Committee gave a positive assessment of the proposed legislative changes.
