The Armenian government has extended existing restrictions on cement imports and the ban on the export of ceramic waste from automotive catalysts for another six months. The decisions, made on November 28, aim to support domestic producers and protect the environment.
The cement import restrictions have already shown positive results: in 2023, local production increased by 13.1% to 1.14 million tons. Imports of clinker rose by 19.2% to 125,200 tons, while imports of finished cement amounted to approximately 270,000 tons.
Authorities believe this trend fosters fair competition among all market participants, including domestic manufacturers, companies processing imported clinker, and finished product importers.
The export ban on automotive catalyst waste is designed to combat its illegal trade and reduce the number of vehicles without emission control systems.
