Armenia is preparing to appoint a new ambassador to the Russian Federation, as announced by Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan in response to journalists' questions.

"The candidate has already been presented, we are waiting for the appointment," stated Simonyan. He suggested contacting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for additional comments.

Currently, the Ambassador of Armenia to Russia is Vagharshak Harutyunyan.

Earlier, BMG reported that Russia is Armenia's largest trade and economic partner. The total volume of Armenia's foreign trade in the first four months of this year increased by 2.4 times compared to the same period last year, reaching $13.7 billion.

In January-April 2024, trade turnover with Russia increased by 3.1 times, amounting to $6.3 billion. The UAE took second place among Armenia's foreign trade partners, with a trade turnover of $2.85 billion, followed by China in third place with $1.03 billion.
