Armenian authorities are considering an amendment to the law that would simplify procedures for granting residence permits to citizens from the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) member countries who have not labor contract, Irina Davtyan, the deputy head of the Migration Service said at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on state and legal affairs.
She noted that the overwhelming majority of foreigners who have arrived in Armenia in recent months for business purposes are citizens of EEU countries, the balk being from the Russian Federation.
"Under the simplified procedure they will not need any other documents for a work permit. They and their family members will be able to stay in the Republic of Armenia only on the basis of an employment contract," Davtyan said.
She recalled that Russian citizens register now their employment contract, identity document at the Migration Service's online platform workpermit.am, and on that basis receive a certificate confirming the legality of their stay in the country.
"The Armenian Ministry of Economy has proposed amendments to the law so that people who do not have labor contracts (freelancers) can also stay on the territory of the country longer than the current 180 days without additional documents," Davtyan noted, ARKA reports.
