Armenia's inundated hospitals are short of beds for coronavirus patients, said Romella Abovyan, Head of the Department for Epidemiology of Noncommunicable Diseases and Nosocomial Infections at National Centre of Disease Control and Prevention of the country's Ministry of Health.

"Situation with coronavirus in Armenia is strained," the department chief said, Report informs.

According to her, coronavirus infection has grown younger in Armenia.

"Infected children must be hospitalized. Hospitals are overcrowded, and beds are depleted. There are very serious patients; the situation is deplorable."

As of October 13, 1,271 people were infected with the coronavirus in Armenia over the past day, and 28 people died from the virus.

Pursuant to Reuters, Armenia has administered at least 514,241 doses of COVID vaccines so far. Assuming every person needs 2 doses, that’s enough to have vaccinated about 8.7% of the country’s population.

During the last week reported, Armenia averaged about 7,047 doses administered each day. At that rate, it will take a further 84 days to administer enough doses for another 10% of the population.

Previously, with reference to local media, BM.GE reported, that Health Ministry of Armenia was discussing to ask unvaccinated citizens infected with coronavirus to pay for their treatment.
