Member of the ruling parliamentary faction "Civil Contract" Gurgen Arsenyan has submitted his resignation from his parliamentary duties.

This information was provided to BMG by the National Assembly’s press service.

According to media reports, Arsenyan is likely to be appointed as Armenia's ambassador to Russia. No official confirmation of this appointment has been received yet.

Earlier, National Assembly Chairman Alen Simonyan mentioned that Armenia is preparing to appoint a new ambassador to the Russian Federation. "The candidate has already been proposed; we are awaiting the appointment," Simonyan stated.

Currently, Vagarshak Harutyunyan serves as Armenia's ambassador to Russia.

BMG previously reported that Russia is Armenia's largest trade and economic partner. In the first half of the year, trade turnover with Russia increased 2.5 times, amounting to $8.4 billion.

However, exports to Russia fell by 22.1% from last year’s figure of $1.78 billion to $1.4 billion in the first half of 2024, while imports from Russia surged 4.8 times, reaching approximately $7 billion.

During the reporting period, Russia's share in Armenia’s foreign trade turnover also grew from 35.8% last year to 45.4%.
