Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, Hovhannes Harutyunyan, held a meeting with Asian Development Bank (ADB) energy specialist Areg Barseghyan to discuss the construction of the country’s first industrial wind power plant.
The plant will be built in the Shirak region, in the area of the Karakhach Pass. According to Deputy Minister Harutyunyan, the project holds strategic importance as the use of green energy aims to enhance the country’s energy security.
Following the meeting, the ADB representative acknowledged the deputy minister’s comments. Additional studies will be conducted in the near future, after which the revised project will be presented for further discussion.
Previously, Hayk Khachatryan, Deputy Chair of the “Clean Energy” organization, stated that Armenia’s wind energy potential, utilizing all available resources, could reach 10,000 MW.
