The Armenian government has approved a significant loan agreement with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) amounting to €102 million. The decision was made at the cabinet meeting on July 18.
The funds will be allocated for the implementation of the universal health insurance program in the country. The program includes three key components:
- Improving the quality of medical care
- Enhancing the efficiency of healthcare expenditures
- Reducing financial barriers to accessing medical services
The loan terms provide for a long repayment period of 25 years, with the first 15 years being grace years. This will allow Armenia to gradually implement changes in the healthcare system without placing excessive financial strain on the state budget.
The implementation of this program is expected to significantly improve the accessibility and quality of medical services for the Armenian population. Experts note that the introduction of a universal health insurance system is a crucial step in modernizing the country's healthcare sector.
