During a recent visit to Alaverdi, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan instructed authorities to promptly assess the urgent needs of residents affected by the natural disaster, provide immediate assistance, and subsequently implement programs to mitigate the aftermath.

This was announced by Aren Mkrtchyan, a deputy from the ruling "Civil Contract" faction of the National Assembly, on his Facebook page.

"Dear citizens, the consequences of the disaster are indeed enormous. But don't despair, we will have even more well-maintained, beautiful, and cozy cities and villages. We will definitely manage," he wrote.

Earlier, BMG reported that the Armenian government declared several settlements in the Lori and Tavush regions as disaster zones after severe floods caused by heavy rains on May 25-26, 2024.

As a result of the natural disaster, 4 people died, 18 bridges were destroyed, and 7 settlements were cut off from the rest of the region.

The damage caused by the flooding of the Debed River has not yet been fully assessed, but it is devastatingly large, recently stated Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan, adding that 300 million drams (approximately $800,000) have been allocated to address urgent issues.
