The Armenian Ministry of Economy, in collaboration with the World Bank, conducted a large-scale survey among foreign tourists who visited the country. The results of the study showed that visitors highly appreciate the level of safety in Armenia, according to Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan during a government meeting on September 12.
According to the minister, the survey covered various aspects of safety in the country. "Tourists gave high marks to Armenia’s internal safety, both in rural areas, regional centers, and even on the outskirts of Yerevan," Papoyan noted.
Notably, foreign visitors felt safe at any time of day. "Tourists were able to walk freely in the evenings, at night, and even during late hours, without encountering any problems," the minister emphasized.
Gevorg Papoyan also mentioned that many tourists compared their experience in Armenia with other countries. "According to their impressions, Armenia was perceived as a very safe country at all times of the day," he concluded.
Earlier BMG reported that, according to the Statistical Committee, 946,162 foreign tourists visited Armenia in the first half of 2024, which is 6.1% less than the same period in 2023, when 1,007,346 visits were recorded.
Russia remains a key source of tourists for Armenia, accounting for 42% of visitors in July, followed by Georgia (13%) and Iran (8%).
