Armenian exports of electricity to Georgia in 2022 amounted to 365 million kWh, which is more than the combined exports in the previous 10 years, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Hakob Vardanyan said.
According to him, only 242 million kWh of electricity had been exported to Georgia in 2012-2021.
He attributed the growth to liberalization of the energy market and simplified procedure for obtaining licenses for electricity exports.
Speaking at a discussions in parliament on a set of amendments to the law On Energy, he said they specify electricity trading mechanisms.
According to the amendments, the Yerevan Thermal Power Plant will regulate the balancing services, as it is the only power plant capable of implementing them with minimal expenses.
